The Mischer Neuroscience Institute provides specialized treatment for diseases of the brain and spine. The Institute was the first center in Texas and one of only a few institutions in the country to fully integrate neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology and neurorehabilitation. The Institute has 140 neuro beds and 5 dedicated operating rooms. ==Leadership== Neurosurgeon Dr. Dong Kim is the Director of the Mischer Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Kim is a graduate of Stanford University and The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF). His internship at Harvard University was followed by residency at UCSF and fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery and skull base tumors at University of Florida. Dr. Kim also is Professor and Chair at The Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery at UTHealth〔(Dr. Dong Kim ) uth.tmc.edu. Retrieved April 12, 2012.〕 Dr. Jerry Wolinsky is co-director of the Mischer Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Wolinsky's primariy clinical interest is treatment of multiple sclerosis. He is also interim Chair of the Department of Neurology and on the faculty of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School. He also serves as director of the Multiple Sclerosis Research Group and the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Analysis Center at UTHealth.
